2023/2024 Season - Club Championship Round 6

Apr 3, 2024, 7:30:00 PM

Belper Club Championships 2023-4 Rules.

  1. All games are to be recorded, just as in the league, and normal rules for competitive chess will apply.
  2. The time control is as in the league, i.e. the games are to be completed in 75 mins plus 10 seconds from move one. Many of the DGT digital clocks will hopefully have that setting already programmed.
  3. Games can be played anywhere, but it is expected that players will play at the club on the first Wednesday of the month, as far as possible.
  4. If a game has to be played at someone’s home and no DGT clock is available, a move rate of all moves in 90 minutes should be used.
  5. If a player cannot play on the first Wed. of the month, he must notify his opponent asap in order to rearrange the match. This must be played by the end of that same month.
  6. A total of ONE bye per player may be taken in rounds 1-5, but must be requested before the draw for that round is to take place. (This will usually be the last few days of the previous month.)
  7. The competition will be a Swiss format, held over seven rounds, the months being Oct., Nov., Dec., Jan., Feb., Mar., and Apr.
  8. Both players should notify me promptly of the result, preferably via email.
  9. The competition will have three sections, with a trophy or cup for each. These will be Open, U1700, U1500. (Some players are technically ungraded. I have had to estimate these in order for the program I'm using to work out the initial draw. I am intending to stick to these for the whole competition unless they prove to be wildly inaccurate)
  10. At the end of the competition, In the event of a tie between players for any trophy I shall instruct the program to apply a pre-defined set of tie-breaking solutions. These are the tie-break solutions and the order in which they will be applied.
  • Buchholz Cut 1
  • Buchholz Total
  • Direct Encounter
  • Average performance rating of opponents
  • Most wins
